Is there a way to make iCal keep all events no matter how old they are?

It looks like iCal only keeps events as far back as a year. I don't want them deleted unless I do that myself. If this isn't possible, I'd like a calendar app that does that, and has an iPhone and Apple Watch app and syncs through iCloud. If anyone as any suggestions on that, I'd love to hear that. I really do like iCal though. It's what I've always used. Thanks!

For many years, I have used an iCloud calendar on my Mac, iPhone and iPad. I always update Apple software on the day updates are released.

Your post caused me to review my calendar on the Mac. I (surprisingly) found an event from August, 2010 that I failed to delete. That event does not appear on my iPhone or iPad, because in both cases I have Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Sync Events set to a few weeks.

So the Mac's Calendar program (iCal has not existed for several years) does not by itself purge old events.
